Tsuji Seimei was a Japanese ceramic artist known for his powerful wood-fired stoneware and exploration of natural ash glazes. Born in Kyoto, he studied at Kyoto City University of Arts where he developed an early interest in historic Japanese kiln traditions.
Establishing his own kiln in Shiga Prefecture, Tsuji drew inspiration from early Shigaraki and Iga wares. Through prolonged wood firing he allowed flame, ash and heat to shape the final surface of the vessel, producing dramatic textures and natural glaze effects
His work was widely exhibited in Japan and received recognition at major ceramic exhibitions including the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. Today his ceramics are valued for their strong sculptural presence and deep engagement with traditional firing practices.
