Machiko Ogawa is a Japanese ceramic artist whose work explores the relationship between geology, material and form. Born in Sapporo, she studied at Tokyo University of the Arts before continuing her training at the École d’Arts et Métiers in Paris.
Her vessels draw inspiration from natural structures such as fossils, minerals and volcanic landscapes. Through experimental glazing and firing she produces textured surfaces that evoke geological formations and shifting natural processes.
Her work has been exhibited widely in Japan, Europe and the United States and is held in major museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
