Matsui Kosei: Master of Neriage

£55

Matsui Kosei: Master of Neriage is the second publication by deBiousse&West, accompanying our exhibition of the same name presented in collaboration with Margaret Howell at its Wigmore Street store.

Celebrating the work of Matsui Kosei (1927–2003), one of Japan’s pioneering masters of neriage, the publication focuses on a distinctive period of his practice from the 1970s to the 1990s. Bringing together a selection of key works, it explores Matsui’s remarkable use of coloured clay to create intricate patterns, textures and forms, alongside texts, archival material and a chronology of the artist’s life and career.

Produced as a limited-edition hardback, the publication continues our series of books created to accompany each exhibition and reflect the materiality, scholarship and craftsmanship at the heart of deBiousse&West’s programme. The exhibition and publication are presented in collaboration with Margaret Howell, whose longstanding interest in craftsmanship, textiles and considered design provides a natural context for Matsui’s work.
